Introduction: this program has been designed for the avid Birdwatcher who has done various tours and now wants an itinerary directed to an specific
type of bird. Our location in Providencia de Dota is is surrounded by the Los Quetzales National Park on one end and our own 200-acre ancient oak forest. Providencia is a privileged birding habitat, featuring 90% of Highland endemic species within a 10 mile radius of our location. Download our Endemic Highland species list.
This trip is great for the mid and advanced Bird Watcher. We will spend five full days of birding in the Mountains of Providencia at 6,000 feet of altitude, with day trips and hikes to nearby locations reaching 10,000 feet.
5 night / 6 day itinerary -- US$1,125
Day 1: arrival to Costa Rica. We will meet you at the aiport with your own A/C
private transportation and bilingual birding guide. Check in at hotel in the Central Valley or, if arrival times allow it, go directly to spend the first night in the Highlands. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 2 - Day 5: Every day we meet at 5 am for a pre-dawn birding session and then head to have breakfast. During breakfast, we will discuss the day's itinerary.
While in Providencia, you will have the option of staying in a home at the village or taking a cabin with private bathroom. Our recommendation is that you stay in one of our selected homes for an enhanced cultural experience where you will experience the charm of true Costa Rican hospitality and our wholesome cuisine.
According to the weather and the group's dynamics, we will schedule an after-dinner Highland owl search.
For our Quetzal Quest, we will visit known nesting sites and will view the Resplendent Quetzal in many different situations.

Day 5: We go out in the morning before breakfast for a last bird watch. After lunch we willl pack and head towards our Central Valley hotel. We will enjoy a farewell dinner at a selected restaurant.
Day 6: depart to the airport.
Price per person in double occupancy: US$1,125 based on a 8-passenger group.

A US$150 non-refundable booking fee is required at the time of making the reservation. This fee is applied towards the final price of the tour.
If more than 8 passengers book your trip, your US$1,125 price will be reduced accordingly. You must book the trip and pay the initial booking
fee in order to receive passenger counts and final price information.
Available Dates for the Highland Birds Program will always be during the months of March and April of each year, the mating season of the Resplandent Quetzal.
