Introduction: this program has been designed as an introductory course in all species of Costa Rican Birds. In the 11 full days of Birding, you will
see Water Birds, Caribbean Birds, Highland Birds, Lowland Birds, Central Valley Birds. This is a great mix for the first time visitor to Costa Rica or an experienced birder who wants to have the opportunity to see so much in such a small
country, and at a great pace.
This trip is a great option for the mid to advanced Bird Watcher.
12 night / 13 day itinerary -- from US$1,995 per person
Day 1: arrival to Costa Rica, check in at your hotel in the northeastern edge of the Central Valley. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, checking
on the birds at the hotel garden.. We gather at dinner for a 45 minute introduction to the program.
Day 2: We meet for an early walk through the gardens of the hotel. During breakfast, we will discuss the day's itinerary.
We get on the road and less than two hours later you will be admiring different types of Hummingbirds. After this stop, we continue on our way to Sarapiqui, for our first 2 nts/3 days of Birding in the Caribbean
Lowlands.
The first night in Sarapiqui we will take a unique White Bat tour in a forest reserve that operates under the auspices of the Milwaukee Public Museum.
Day 3: We spend the entire day at La Selva station, property of the Organization for Tropical Studies, and one of the hottest spots for Birding in the
Caribbean Lowlands.
Day 4: After a pre-dawn owl search and early morning birding, we enjoy a delicious breakfast. Mid morning we will depart for the Arenal/Fortuna region,
in preparation for our Caño Negro water bird trip.,
Day 5: We depart early to board our boat in Caño Negro. This legendary destination will be your Water Bird destination for this itinerary..
Day 6: Today, we head towards the highlands of Monteverde. We arrive by lunch and check in our Mountain Lodge. A buttefly garden will be our next stop
in the afternoon.
Day 7: The legendary Monteverde Preserve will be our focus today.
Day 8: We depart early towards the Central Pacific, home of the Scarlet Macaw and site of a great water bird excursion.
Day 9: We board our boat in the early morning hours to beat the traffic in the river. We will enjoy a delicious fresh fruit breakfast and wait for the
Macaws to start flying above us.
Later in the day, we head towards the Carara National Park, home of the Macaws.
Day 10: We leave the Central Pacific towards the South Pacific and then the Southern Highlands. Birding along the route is simply marvelous.
After dinner we do a Highland owl search.
Day 11: Today is Quetzal Quest Day but the Trogon will also be in the list.
Day 12: We visit the Cloud Forest one more time to search for the elusive Quetzal. We then head towards our hotel in San Jose, where we will arrive mid
afternoon, after lunch on the road.
Farewell dinner at a traditional Costa Rican restaurant. .
Day 13: depart to the airport.

Single supplement is $511 and triple occupancy is also available.
